Finger Flashlight

Just a couple of nights ago, I was working on an Arduino project with my boyfriend. Everything was dandy, until I snapped at him for hindering the light source. It was seriously no big deal in other cases, but I never realized how annoying it was to me until now. Granted, it was a really small object that we were both focusing on and I was already frustrated from the code not working. It was all good. We finished the project without any scars.

Then I came across a concept design for an LED light glove. Basically, a glove that allows you to shoot a ray of light at your enemies…err…objects.

This is a concept design by a Slovenian designer, Tilen Sepic. The purpose of this design is to “produce a working light” without having to deal with shadows. Why didn’t I have this glove during my project??

By the way, the thing around the wrist is an external battery pack. How cool is that? AND the whole glove is lined with fiber optics. You can be your own Iron Man. No joke.

Would this be helpful? Or would it more of a hindrance when working on things that are hands-on?

Therapeutic High Heels Update

Last time I mentioned a special project that I worked on that aims to bring comfort to wearing high heels. In the beginning, I just wanted to 3D scan an existing pair since I recently learned about a program called 123D Catch, which is an awesome tool that pieces together photos of a physical object into a 3D model. It works great if you want to test it on smaller objects – say a nail polish. Instead, I opted for a different method, using the NextEngine 3D Scanner.

I know I’ve said “3D” a lot all ready. Bear with me 🙂

Basically, with this scanner, you can scan any object that can fit within the rotating disk. I seriously love this scanner. It’s like having an XBox, but for designers. Depending on how accurate you want the result to be, it can take from 7 minutes to half an hour. Of course, if you want a better quality scan, you’d have to wait.

After the scan, and editing using Autodesk Maya, here’s what I got.

Wait till you see the 3D print of this shoe! It’s epic.

Product Review: FineLife Products Bug Zapper

The other day, I was cleaning out some of the clutter in my room – surprise, surprise – and I found my electric bug swatter! This was given to me as a birthday present, and by far, it’s the most practical gift I’ve ever received. For some reason, mosquitoes love to devour my blood. Even if I’m in a room with 5 people, I would be the one getting bites; the bites would get so bad that they actually bruise and scar without me touching it.

Yesterday was actually the first time I opened the box and used it. My first impression is that it looks like a badminton racket for kids. It has one yellow button on the side of the handle that activates the electric current. If you listen carefully, you can hear a very subtle sound. On the front of the handle is a green LED light that lets you know when the electricity is on.

I have a love/hate relationship with this product. The absolute best thing is that it’s 500x better and more efficient that the traditional fly swatter.

It kills on contact (as grotesque as it sounds). I’m only a little picky about the button. You actually have to hold the button for it to continue turning on instead of a switch.

…..

However, it’s quite useful if you want to prevent kids from using this like a toy. It’s not completely child proof so it might be a problem if you have children in your household.

Have you used this yet? Too bad it’s not convenient to carry around. I want to bring it everywhere!

Product Recommendation: Glo Teeth Whitening Device

How was everyone’s Easter? I did nothing. It was pretty amazing. This was one of the best weekends ever since I finished my thesis. Birds were a-chirping, trees were a-dancing.

Ok I’ll stop.

For the past week, I decided to jump back on the bandwagon. I need to get back on a strict teeth whitening routine. As gross and disgusting as it sounds, I have been consuming so much tea and coffee that my teeth are begging me to stop. It’s like cancer to them. But…the thing is…I have really sensitive teeth and regular Crest strips do not help. I’ve tried everything from using Q-tips and peroxide, to expensive treatments that burned a hole in my non-existing pockets.

Then I found this. The Glo Brilliant Personal Teeth Whitening Device.

I came across this product at Sephora and it looks very convincing. Many reviews claim that it’s very friendly to people who are teeth sensitive. Also, the packaging is very appealing. The price tag is not. At $220, I’m not too willing to buy this off the shelf yet.
